About Krillion Unlimited

Krillion Unlimited is a free, independent version of the rare-answer trivia game Krillion, built and run by one developer. This page says who that is, why the site exists, and exactly how the puzzles are made.

Who makes it

Krillion Unlimited is made by Ikuhei Kure, an independent developer based in Japan who builds small daily puzzle games for the web and iOS. The same person runs the sister sites Poople Unlimited, Tango Unlimited and the multi-game site Puzzlune, and publishes puzzle apps on the App Store under the same name. There is no company behind the site and no team: one person writes the prompts, checks the answer banks and fixes what players report.

Why it exists

The original Krillion (krillion.io) gives you one dive a day; its archive and unlimited play cost money, and when an answer is rejected it doesn't tell you why. We wanted three things it doesn't offer: a way to practise as much as you like, a way to replay any past day for free, and a reveal that shows the whole answer bank with every tier so you can learn where the deep answers live. Krillion Unlimited is that — same rules and tier names, its own prompts and answers, nothing locked.

How the puzzles are made

The site runs on two books of puzzles: 270 daily dives and 240 unlimited dives, 3,570 prompts in all, with 330,288 accepted answers and 16,008 fun facts attached to the rarest ones. The same books power the iOS app, so a dive is identical on both.

  1. Prompts are written by hand, one per category per day, and rejected if they are too narrow to have a rare answer (a prompt with seven accepted answers has nowhere to hide) or so open that the bank can never be complete.
  2. Answer banks are drafted with a language model, then run through mechanical checks: no duplicates after normalisation (case, accents, plurals, a leading "the"), exactly one One-in-a-Krillion answer per prompt, tier shares within set bounds, and a rule that a country's own capital, national dish or national animal can never sit below Schooler.
  3. Every bank is spot-checked by a person, and the prompts most likely to go wrong — small, listable sets such as neighbouring countries, currencies or members of an organisation — are checked line by line.
  4. Players correct the rest. When a guess is rejected the game shows the closest accepted answer, and the reveal after each round lists the whole bank. Reports from the contact page go into the next build.

The honest limitation: the original game ranks answers by how many of its own players gave them. We don't have that data, so our rarity tiers are editorial estimates. We say so on every page rather than pretending otherwise, and the scoring page explains the method in full.
